Flemish Open : Malines

On Saturday and Sunday 9 and 10 April Brass Band Hombeek will again organise the Flemish Open Brass Band Championship (VOBK).
After a forced break in 2020, we are now ready to treat you to a contest certainly worth a visit !
On Saturday as from 16:00 sections C and A can be listened to: Brassband Willebroek, Festival Brassband, Brassband Heist, Hauts de France Brass Band, Jugendbrassband Oberösterreich and Brassband David Zwolle will perform pieces like Toccata E Fantasia (Thomas Doss), Lions of Legends (Thierry Deleruyelle), Heroes (Bruce Broughton), Other Lives (Oliver Waespi) and Journey to the Centre of the Earth (Peter Graham).
You can also hear two baritone soloists at work: Leen Vandenhende creates with Festival Brassband the piece ‘Elena’ (Nick Van Elsen) and from Austria you can watch Felix Geroldinger perform ‘Pulse’ by Thomas Doss.
On Sunday as from 12:00 sections D and B will be on stage: Brassband de Thudinie, Brassband Leest, Brassband Lembeek, United Brass, Mercator Brassband, Young Brassband Willebroek and Brassband Bacchus will perform pieces by Philip Sparke (The Saga of Hakoon the Good, Tallis Variations), Jan de Haan (The Baltic Way), Lucy Pankhurst/Andrew Baker/Paul McGhee (Lucid Perspectives), Etienne Crausaz (Albinus Variations), Stijn Aertgeerts (Hope, Bipolar), Maarten Vermeersch (An Old Man’s Tale) and many more.
De four set works were written for the VOBK: the Mechelen composer Simon Van Hoecke wrote Goldhorn for Section A, in sections B, C and D you can listen to respectively The Spider’s Web (Mike Sheppard), Gala Overture (Steven Verhelst) and Echo (Nick Van Elsen).
Like this Brassband Hombeek and the VOBK try to support and give a stage to composers and contribute to new repertoire for brass band.
Three international adjudicators will assess the performances.
Nu the only thing we need is your support! Come and join us on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April 2022 in the Mechelen City Theatre. Tickets are 15 euro for Saturday and 12 euro for Sunday, for sale via office @ vobk . org (leave out the spaces).
At the Veemarkt a band stand + tent will welcome you to some free concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
