{"id":15468,"global_id":"hautsdefrance-brassband.fr?id=15468","global_id_lineage":["hautsdefrance-brassband.fr?id=15468"],"author":"52","status":"publish","date":"2022-04-05 23:50:11","date_utc":"2022-04-05 22:50:11","modified":"2022-04-05 23:50:11","modified_utc":"2022-04-05 22:50:11","url":"https:\/\/hautsdefrance-brassband.fr\/?tribe_events=flemish-open-malines","rest_url":"https:\/\/hautsdefrance-brassband.fr\/index.php?rest_route=\/tribe\/events\/v1\/events\/15468","title":"Flemish Open : Malines","description":"<p>On Saturday and Sunday 9 and 10 April Brass Band Hombeek will again organise the Flemish Open Brass Band Championship (VOBK).<\/p>\n<p>After a forced break in 2020, we are now ready to treat you to a contest certainly worth a visit !<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday as from 16:00 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vobk.org\/en\/posts\/2022-02-21\/\">sections C and A<\/a> can be listened to: <strong>Brassband Willebroek<\/strong>, <strong>Festival Brassband<\/strong>, <strong>Brassband Heist<\/strong>, <strong>Hauts de France Brass Band<\/strong>, <strong>Jugendbrassband Ober\u00f6sterreich<\/strong> and <strong>Brassband David Zwolle<\/strong> will perform pieces like Toccata E Fantasia (Thomas Doss), Lions of Legends (Thierry Deleruyelle), Heroes (Bruce Broughton), Other Lives (Oliver Waespi) and Journey to the Centre of the Earth (Peter Graham).<\/p>\n<p>You can also hear two <strong>baritone soloists<\/strong> at work: <strong>Leen Vandenhende<\/strong> creates with Festival Brassband the piece \u2018Elena\u2019 (Nick Van Elsen) and from Austria you can watch <strong>Felix Geroldinger<\/strong> perform \u2018Pulse\u2019 by Thomas Doss.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday as from 12:00 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vobk.org\/en\/posts\/2022-02-21\/\">sections D and B<\/a> will be on stage: <strong>Brassband de Thudinie<\/strong>, <strong>Brassband Leest<\/strong>, <strong>Brassband Lembeek<\/strong>, <strong>United Brass<\/strong>, <strong>Mercator Brassband<\/strong>, <strong>Young Brassband Willebroek<\/strong> and <strong>Brassband Bacchus<\/strong> will perform pieces by Philip Sparke (The Saga of Hakoon the Good, Tallis Variations), Jan de Haan (The Baltic Way), Lucy Pankhurst\/Andrew Baker\/Paul McGhee (Lucid Perspectives), Etienne Crausaz (Albinus Variations), Stijn Aertgeerts (Hope, Bipolar), Maarten Vermeersch (An Old Man\u2019s Tale) and many more.<\/p>\n<p>De <strong>four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vobk.org\/en\/posts\/2021-06-22\">set works<\/a><\/strong> were written for the VOBK: the Mechelen composer <strong>Simon Van Hoecke<\/strong> wrote Goldhorn for Section A, in sections B, C and D you can listen to respectively The Spider&rsquo;s Web (<strong>Mike Sheppard<\/strong>), Gala Overture (<strong>Steven Verhelst<\/strong>) and Echo (<strong>Nick Van Elsen<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Like this Brassband Hombeek and the VOBK try to support and give a stage to composers and <strong>contribute to new repertoire for brass band<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vobk.org\/en\/posts\/2022-02-17\">international adjudicators<\/a> will assess the performances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nu the only thing we need is your support!<\/strong> Come and join us on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April 2022 in the Mechelen City Theatre. Tickets are 15 euro for Saturday and 12 euro for Sunday, for sale via office @ vobk . org (leave out the spaces).<\/p>\n<p>At the Veemarkt a band stand + tent will welcome you to some free concerts on
